Seattle School of Creative Composition

A Bauhaus-inspired school for curious young creators.

Seattle School of Creative Composition is building a new kind of school focused on creative expression and mastery of craft, taught by practicing creative professionals. Students learn through hands-on, studio-based practice, developing the skills, knowledge, and judgment to make exceptional work. This fall, we're starting with our first after-school studio: Creative Coding, for middle school students.

Our Approach

A Time to Learn...

Middle school is a singular moment in a creator's life: minds are expanding, creative energy is blossoming, and students are old enough to begin pursuing a creative craft with real depth and intention.

Mastering a craft is both a creative and intellectual pursuit. To truly understand a medium, students need more than technique. They need to understand its language, conventions, tools, and possibilities—and to study the practitioners who have pushed the medium forward.

Mastery also demands sustained practice. A lot of it. That's why we give students the time and space to stay with one craft long enough to get beyond the basics—to experiment, struggle, improve, and discover what they're capable of.

But mastery requires something harder to teach: a sense of what makes something exceptional. That sense is developed through close observation, rigorous practice, honest critique, and patient mentorship. Students build their judgment by working alongside practicing professionals who can show them, up close, how excellent work is made—and help them find their own way toward it.

At Seattle School of Creative Composition, students don't simply learn to be creative. They learn to see deeply, practice deliberately, work intentionally, and make things exceptionally well.
